AHA! YOU'VE SCANNED THE THINGY!

What is this and why are you giving it to me?

The wedding favour (bomboniere) you’re likely holding in your hands right now has a special and symbolic story.

In the Sanciolo family, there is a tradition that bomboniere are small, bespoke sculptures depicting lovers made by Italo-Australian artist (and Mietta’s father), Bartolomeo Sanciolo.

What are the white things and can I eat them?

The sugared almonds that accompany it are a long standing Mediterranean tradition; they represent a wish for the married couple to enjoy a life that is more sweet than bitter. The five almonds represent health, wealth, happiness, fertility & long life.

And yes, you can eat them if you’d really like to (in our opinion, they’re not very nice… definitely don’t try and eat the sculpture)

The Process

Bart sculpted the scene in clay prior to pouring multiple moulds. Each iteration helped to finesse the design and prepare for casting in Aluminium at the foundry. Bart then individually treated and sanded each sculpture before finishing with a hook and velvet wall protection. We hope you’re able to hang your artwork in your home and think of us! Thank you for celebrating our big day with us!

A huge thank you to Papa’ for making these special and unique gifts. It’s exciting to join the Bomboniere Club!
